 History of the symposium

The Ist International Symposium «Education for Sustainable Development for All Generations as a Social Agreement» was held in February 2016 in Minsk. This important event counted with the participation of:

ministers of education, natural resources and protection of the environment of the Republic of Belarus,

vice-ministers of economy, labour and social protection of the Republic of Belarus,

UNDP advisor in public administration,

partners in the areas of regional development and ESD from:

                  Belarus,                  Armenia,                 Germany,                China,                 Lithuania, 

                  Latvia,                Poland,                 Russia,               Ukraine,                 Estonia.

 

The total number of the participants was more than 500 people.

The opening ceremony for the participants and guests of the symposium was made by the Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Anatolyevich Zhuravkov, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Marlenovich Kovkhuto, the Deputy Minister of Economy Irina Anatolievna Kostevich, the First Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Andrei V. Lobovich, the rector of Belarusian State Pedagogical University Alexander Ivanovich Zhuk and other officials .

As an outcome of the Ist International Symposium a memorandum "About the Development of Education Practices for Sustainable Development" was adopted. Prior to its adoption the memorandum was presented at the meeting of the Coordinating Council on ESD under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and at the international meetings held by the professional community of BSRESDN (Baltic Sea Region Network on ESD) and the international community RCE-Europe supported by UNESCO and supervised by the UN University in Tokio, Japan.

Based on the results the international expertise granted the certificate of Acknowledgement of the IAS-UNU (Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability) (October 2, 2017) -  acknowledging a status of RCE-Belarus - to the collaborative activities of the Education for Sustainable Development Association and Belarusian State Pedagogical Maxim-Tank-University (BSPU) in the area of conceptualization and promoting ESD practices as a key enabler for sustainable development.

At present the Collection of materials of the I International Symposium has been published. It contains the theses of materials of the Symposium participants and its final documents.
